One of the biggest reasons the NY Jets have struggled to escape the basement of the AFC is because they lack star power, and as they’ve missed on big free agents lately, the draft is the best way to change this.
The team already has picks No. 4 and No. 10 in the upcoming NFL Draft, and with another three picks inside the top-100, they can either use those to draft, or move up. While both plays are good, if the Jets can move from No. 35 into the 15-32 spot, they may find themselves a star.
Today, we are taking a look at the latter of those options however, as we outline five players the Jets could look to target if they trade back into the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft.
1. The NY Jets could look to target the electric Jameson Williams
Wide receiver is clearly one of the Jets' biggest needs, and if they decide to go with edge or cornerback with the top-two picks, then trading back into the first for a player like Jameson Williams makes complete sense.
It may be more expensive to move back toward the top-15, as you would need to do to get such an electric playmaker. But if the Jets could pair the Alabama star with Elijah Moore and Corey Davis, they will have their best wide receiver corps since Eric Decker and Brandon Marshall.
There has been a lot of talk about either DK Metcalf or A.J. Brown, and while that idea isn’t completely dead yet, it’s not likely. So if we don’t see another Joe Douglas fleecing on draft day, this could be a perfect play, depending on how the early draft board plays out.
