The NY Jets managed to simultaneously overachieve and underachieve in 2022. While their 7-4 start was celebrated as the team was officially ahead of schedule, their subsequent late-season collapse has to be seen as an ultimate failure.
From lackluster quarterback play to a struggling offensive line to some questionable coaching, the Jets fell short of midseason expectations while simultaneously meeting their preseason goals. It was a weird year for Gang Green.
That said, despite the team's late-season struggles, there were a few notable bright spots on the roster. Everyone knows about the brilliance of players like Sauce Gardner, Quinnen Williams, and Garrett Wilson, but what about the under-the-radar guys?
Let's take a look at the four most notable unsung heroes on the Jets' roster in 2022.
4. Greg Zuerlein, K, NY Jets
Greg Zuerlein has quietly solidified a position that has caused the Jets headaches over the last few years. Signed to a one-year contract this past offseason, Zuerlein has connected on 28-of-34 field goals and 28-of-29 extra-point attempts.
He's been most impressive from long range including a Jets-record 60-yard field goal against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 13 and a franchise-record six field goals made from 50 yards or more.
In fact, Zuerlein already ranks third all-time in Jets history with six field goals of 50+ yards behind only Nick Folk and John Hall. He's managed to do that in just one season with the team.
Zuerlein hasn't been perfect, but he's single-handedly won the Jets at least one game this season and has been very effective from long range. He deserves his flowers for sure.
