1. NY Jets trade target: Amari Cooper, WR, Dallas Cowboys

Amari Cooper figures to be one of the most heavily-discussed players on the open market this offseason. That is, if he actually reaches the open market.

It was reported late last week that the Dallas Cowboys are "likely" to release their star wide receiver before the start of the new league year. However, that's far from a given.

The Cowboys are going to move on from Cooper. They sealed their fate with the back-breaking extension they handed running back Ezekiel Elliott. Now, they're essentially forced to cut ties with a very good wide receiver.

But they might not necessarily have to release him. There's a chance a team could come calling with a potential trade offer. A team like the Jets has as much of an incentive to do so as any.

There's no guarantee that Cooper would choose to sign with the Jets in free agency. Money talks, but it isn't everything. However, the Jets could ensure that they land Cooper by offering the Cowboys some sort of draft compensation (likely a Day 3 pick) in a trade.

Cooper's $22 million cap hit would be a lot to take on, although the Cowboys would retain at least $6 million of it. The Jets could also explore a restructure once Cooper landed in New York as well.

The Jets need to be aggressive in their attempt to surround Zach Wilson with as much talent as possible. There are few better ways to do so than by trading for Amari Cooper this offseason.
