3 new NY Jets players who will be upgrades this season
By Mike Luciano
1. OT Tyron Smith
Olu Fashanu might be the future, but Smith is the present at left tackle. The Jets had to be thrilled when Smith signed a very unique one-year contract that could be worth as much as $20 million, as they swapped out the disappointing Mekhi Becton for a future Hall of Famer fresh off another All-Pro season.
Smith's health is the only question surrounding him, as he hasn't played more than 13 games in a season in almost a decade. With the Fashanu pick serving as amazing leverage, the Jets can feel more comfortable rolling out the former Cowboys star in 2024.
Tyron Smith will be a star for the NY Jets
Not only is Smith a tremendous starter, but he made his name as one of the best pass blockers this game has ever seen. A healthy Smith was far and away the best free agent option the Jets could have signed to aid in their goal of protecting Aaron Rodgers off an Achilles injury.
Smith could have had his pick of contenders to join across the NFL, and he chose to join the Jets. The need was obvious, but Smith's confidence in the Jets' plan to compete for a championship should instill fans with even more hype and electricity ahead of the 2024 season.
