2. NY Jets target: Khalil Shakir, WR, Boise State

Khalil Shakir is a versatile and athletic receiver who can play just about anywhere you line him up on the field. In addition to catching the ball, he can also be utilized out of the backfield and has been effective in running the jet sweep.

While playing for Vista Murrieta High School in Murrieta, California, Shakir rushed for 906 yards in his senior year and was highly recruited before choosing to play for Boise State. At 6-foot-1 and 190 pounds, Shakir makes up for his lack of size with athleticism and explosiveness after the catch.

In 2021, Shakir had 77 receptions for 1,117 yards and seven touchdowns. Over the course of his last three seasons, Shakir averaged 902.7 receiving yards and scored 22 touchdowns. He is an exceptional route runner which makes him an attractive option for the Jets' offensive system.

Shakir performed extremely well during the week leading up to the Senior Bowl and caught the eye of many of the Jets' coaching staff. In particular, Shakir was observed on many occasions working closely with Jets' receiver's coach Miles Austin.

Shakir's performance earned him high praise from Austin who claimed the former Bronco caught everything that came his way.

Khalil Shakir could prove to be an attractive option for the Jets possibly with one of their fourth-round selections. Working in Shakir's favor is that he is also an experienced kick returner and can immediately contribute to the Jets on special teams. Given the coaching staff's familiarity with him, Shakir seems to check off all the boxes as a potential mid-round draft selection.
