There were not many bright spots during the New York Jets' 28-25 loss to the Miami Dolphins in Week 7. The defense couldn't get a stop when they needed it, and the offense couldn't seem to get things going consistently until it was far too late.
Aside from maybe one player. Rookie wide receiver Omar Cooper Jr., appearing in just his third game of the 2026 season, absolutely tantalized once again with his playmaking ability; seemingly the only Jets passing weapon on Sunday who could make a play.
The first-round draft pick hauled in five receptions for 115 yards and a touchdown, marking his second consecutive game crossing over the century mark, a feat not often seen in recent Jets memory.
According to ESPN's Rich Cimini, Cooper became only the second Jets rookie in franchise history to record a back-to-back 100-yard game, the first since Al Toon in 1985. Cooper is also the only rookie in Jets history to have back-to-back touchdowns to go along with his 100-yard games.
Cooper Jr. is the first Jets rookie with consecutive games of 100+ Rec yds & Rec TD. https://t.co/0ag923KbSB

Omar Cooper Jr. the lone bright spot in New York Jets' Week 7 loss
In a day when Geno Smith completed 23-of-30 pass attempts for 287 yards, it felt like the passing attack just wasn't consistent enough unless he was throwing it to Cooper.
Garrett Wilson was once again essentially iced out of the game, targeted only three times, and caught two passes for 19 yards. Adonai Mitchell, in his long-awaited return to the lineup, failed to record a single catch. He was targeted three times.
That left Cooper, alongside tight end Mason Taylor, as the only real weapons for Smith to lean on, and lean on Cooper he did.
The Indiana standout clearly has the ability to make plays when the ball is in his hands. His 22 yards gained per catch is truly an outrageous number and a testament to his ability to gain yards after the catch.
There are plenty of reasons for fans to feel like there's no hope right now, but the Jets' young weapons are a reason to believe.
Despite Kenyon Sadiq's lack of involvement on offense, he showed the ability to be a playmaker in the Jets' Week 3 loss against the Detroit Lions. Once New York gets someone who knows how to consistently utilize his skill set, he and Cooper will be a dynamic duo alongside the likes of Wilson.
Considering Jets fans' track record, expect another Rookie of the Week belt headed to One Jets Drive on Thursday.
