NY Jets left tackle Olu Fashanu has been a revelation since taking over as the team's starting left tackle. While the Jets don't have much left to play for in 2024, Fashanu's development has been encouraging to watch unfold.
Unfortunately, the Jets can't have nice things.
Fashanu exited the Jets' Week 16 game against the Los Angeles Rams in the fourth quarter after suffering an apparent leg injury. The rookie left tackle was down on the field for quite some time before leaving the field.
Fashanu was unable to put weight on his left leg and was immediately placed on a cart before going to the locker room. The Jets wasted little time ruling their standout rookie out for the game with what is being called a foot injury.
Olu Fashanu Injury Update
The exact severity of Fashanu's injury is unclear at this time, but it's not a good sign that the Jets immediately ruled him out for the game. The fact that he was unable to put weight on his leg and that he was carted off also doesn't bode well.
The performance of the Jets' offensive line has been one of the most encouraging aspects of what has been an incredibly disappointing season. Fashanu has been excellent since taking over for Tyron Smith at left tackle in Week 10.
The Penn State product had recorded a 77.1 PFF pass block grade since stepping into the starting lineup. His performance has been massive for the entire Jets' offense.
The Jets will await further updates on their promising rookie left tackle. Early indications are that it's a serious injury.
