The NY Jets are expected to cast a wide net in their search for a new general manager this offseason. The team has already interviewed three prospective candidates — Thomas Dimitroff, Jon Robinson, and Louis Riddick — with more sure to come in the near future.
One name that's reportedly on their radar is Tampa Bay Buccaneers assistant general manager Mike Greenberg — no relation to the famous Mike Greenberg who doubles as an ESPN analyst and diehard Jets fan.
ESPN's Jeremy Fowler identified Greenberg as a possible target for the Jets on Wednesday. The Athletic's Zack Rosenblatt also listed Greenberg as a potential candidate for the Jets, insisting he expects the Jets to at least bring him in for an interview.
Greenberg has been with the Buccaneers for the last 15 years, previously serving as the vice president of football administration, the director of football administration, and the coordinator of football administration.
Expect to hear his name again once formal interviews with candidates under contract with NFL teams begin next month.
Other NY Jets news:
Quinnen Williams injury update
The Jets are dealing with a number of injuries as they head into their Week 16 game against the Los Angeles Rams. Among those injured is star defensive tackle Quinnen Williams.
Williams exited Sunday's win over the Jacksonville Jaguars with a hamstring injury and was held out of practice on Wednesday. Nickel cornerback Michael Carter II (back) and right guard Alijah Vera-Tucker (ankle) both didn't practice as well.
Despite the Jets' defensive regression, Williams is still putting together a Pro Bowl-caliber season. The former Alabama star ranks fourth among all interior defensive linemen with 50 pressures and is tied for fifth in sacks.
If Williams is unable to play on Sunday, the Jets would be forced to rely on the likes of Javon Kinlaw, Solomon Thomas, and Leonard Taylor III. Nose tackle Leki Fotu also returned to practice on Wednesday and is eligible to be activated from the injured reserve this week.
Jets place Jalen Mills on IR
The Jets made a series of roster moves on Wednesday, most notably placing safety Jalen Mills on injured reserve. Mills suffered a broken collarbone in Sunday's win over the Jaguars and will miss the remainder of the season.
The former Philadelphia Eagles defensive back joined the Jets in September and has since established himself as a key player on and off the field for the team's defense. Tony Adams, Chuck Clark, Ashtyn Davis, and Isaiah Oliver are the remaining safeties on the 53-man roster.
The Jets also signed three players to their practice squad, running back Zach Evans, defensive end Bradlee Anae, and tight end Neal Johnson. Evans was a sixth-round pick of the Los Angeles Rams in the 2023 NFL Draft and gives the Jets extra running back depth with Breece Hall, Braelon Allen, and Isaiah Davis nursing injuries.
Anae was previously with the Jets in 2022 and 2023 and notably put together a strong summer with the team in his first season. Johnson is a rookie UDFA who spent this past summer with the Jets. He replaces tight end Brenden Bates, who was signed off the Jets' practice squad by the Cleveland Browns on Wednesday.
