The NY Jets have done everything they can to purge their roster of the Aaron Rodgers era, all while unofficially declaring that there will likely be a brief moratorium on acquiring players from the Green Bay Packers after both Rodgers and wide receiver Allen Lazard failed to live up to the hype.
However, the Packers may have created a logjam at wide receiver that could benefit the Jets. After using a first-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft on Matthew Golden, former fourth-round pick Romeo Doubs could be the next hot name in the rumor mill.
Bleacher Report believes the Jets should consider a trade for Doubs in order to beef up their wide receiver room. Currently, wide receiver (outside of the terrific Garrett Wilson) may be the most obvious need on this roster outside of defensive tackle and quarterback.
With Lazard still in town and Josh Reynolds likely the favorite to win the WR2 job, the Jets are a perfect team to take a flier on a player like Doubs, who isn't going to be around in Green Bay if Golden develops in the way they hope.
Jets urged to trade for Packers WR Romeo Doubs
After selecting Golden in the first round and Savion Williams in the third, it seems like the Texas rookie and improving youngster Jayden Reed will be Green Bay's top two wide receivers on the depth chart. Christian Watson's injuries make him a less-than-ideal trade target, and Dontayvion Wicks won't make much of an impact.
A trade might be hard to work out, as a third-round pick that could have been sent to Green Bay in any hypothetical deal was already sent to the Philadelphia Eagles in the ghoulish Haason Reddick debacle. A rebuilding team like the Jets might not want to surrender draft capital, especially when they could use those picks to move up for a franchise QB in 2026.
However, Doubs would be the No. 2 wide receiver with a bullet if he were traded to the Jets. Unlike the drop-heavy Lazard, Doubs' ability to pull off difficult catches and quality route-running on the outside could give him a much higher ceiling than both Lazard and Reynolds.
Someone will be the odd man out in Green Bay, and Doubs may end up being the one squeezed out of his spot due to the value he could bring back to the Packers. The Jets need to be in the business of acquiring as many good players as possible, and Doubs certainly fits the bill.
