No professional sports team has ever embodied the concept of "finding ways to lose" more than the 2024 New York Jets. From coaching blunders to hilarious miscues, this season has become a masterclass in snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

Sunday's 19-9 loss to the Los Angeles Rams perfectly summed up what has been a disastrous and embarrassing season for Gang Green. But in the face of humiliation, the Jets did manage to improve their 2025 NFL Draft position.

The Jets dominated the time of possession and controlled the line of scrimmage. They out-gained their opponents and didn't punt a single time. Logic would suggest this means the Jets handily defeated their opponents.

But the Jets defy logic. They don't just lose games — they find creative, often excruciating ways to let victory slip through their fingers. Not only did the Jets fail to win, they lost by double-digits. They scored nine total points.

In doing so, however, they did manage to help their next regime.

Updated 2025 NFL Draft order after NY Jets' Week 16 loss

The Jets fell to 4-11 following their remarkable Week 16 loss to the Rams. They still hold the eighth overall pick at the time of writing, but that could change depending on the outcome of the rest of this week's slate of games.

The Jets have the strength of schedule tiebreaker over the Chicago Bears, who are also 4-11 entering the final two games of the season. They could also leap-frog the Carolina Panthers and Jacksonville Jaguars depending on how the tiebreaker shakes out.

Regardless, winning meaningless December games does little to help the Jets at this stage. The Jets have games remaining against the Buffalo Bills and Miami Dolphins and could realistically finish with a 4-13 record.

If today's game was any indication, the Jets will find ways to lose both of those games. That's what they've done all season — there's no reason to believe that will be changing.
