The 2025 NFL Draft class isn’t expected to be among the most talented quarterback groups in recent years, but that won’t stop teams from searching for potential diamonds in the rough. The NY Jets are one of the teams actively doing due diligence on this year’s QB class.
The Jets had the chance to meet with draft prospects at this year’s NFL Combine over the weekend. While nearly every player has some level of informal interaction with representatives from every team, each organization is allowed up to 45 formal meetings with prospects.
The Jets reportedly had formal meetings with at least three quarterback prospects at the Combine: Miami's Cam Ward, Syracuse's Kyle McCord, and Texas' Quinn Ewers. It's possible the team had other formal meetings with quarterbacks that haven't been reported at this time.
Ward is widely projected to be the top quarterback taken in the 2025 draft, while McCord and Ewers are intriguing mid-round options. The Jets are doing their homework on this year’s QB class and could very well end up selecting one.
NY Jets met with Cam Ward, Kyle McCord, and Quinn Ewers at the NFL Combine
Ward is obviously the most notable name of the three. The Washington State transfer is in consideration to be the No. 1 overall pick in this year's draft following a standout 2024 season at Miami that saw him receive the Davey O'Brien Award, given annually to the nation's best quarterback.
The Jets won’t be the only team eyeing Ward. The New York Giants are also reportedly eager to move up for the 22-year-old quarterback, and with a draft spot four picks ahead of the Jets, they hold an advantage.
If the Jets aren't able to land Ward, they could shift their attention to Day 2 or 3 of the draft. That's where McCord and Ewers could come into play.
McCord is a New Jersey native who grew up a diehard Jets fan and even wore No. 6 at Syracuse in honor of ex-Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez. He went 22-4 in his career as a starter, transferring from Ohio State to upstate New York following his junior season.
As for Ewers, the former five-star recruit is another Ohio State transfer who started three years at Texas. He's coming off his best season in which he threw for 31 touchdowns and 12 interceptions while leading his Longhorns to an 11-3 record and an appearance in the College Football Playoff semifinal game.
The Jets have Tyrod Taylor, Jordan Travis, and Adrian Martinez (signed to a futures contract) under contract entering the offseason. Taylor is expected to be in the mix for a starting job, while Travis and Martinez will likely be competing for a roster spot in the summer.
Expect the Jets to explore the veteran free-agent quarterback market as well, but don't be surprised if they add another young QB in the draft. Ward, McCord, and Ewers are names to keep an eye on as we inch closer to late April.
