Opinions vary wildly on how good the NY Jets are expected to be in the 2025 season. While some believe that new head coach Aaron Glenn can get this team turned around instantly, doubters wonder if they have the offensive firepower needed to keep up with the competition.

The doubters seem to be growing in numbers, especially after some mixed preseason reviews of quarterback Justin Fields came to light. Some are more pessimistic than others, which has led some analysts to believe the Jets will be one of the worst teams in the league.

Sayre Bedinger of NFL Spin Zone does not believe the Jets are destined for a very fruitful debut season under Glenn, as he has them ranked at 28th in his initial NFL Power Rankings ahead of Week 1. Only the Titans, Browns, Colts, and Saints, three of whom may end up starting rookie quarterbacks, ranked below the Jets.

The main reason for the low ranking was the obvious Fields-led uncertainty at quarterback. Beyond that, the adjustment to Glenn and new defensive coordinator Steve Wilks' scheme could take some time. The young offensive line that just lost Alijah Vera-Tucker could be an impediment to winning.

Jets land at 28th in Week 1 NFL Power Rankings

Glenn's defense figures to be respectable this season, but the Jets do have a very tough slate of quarterbacks to go up against. In just the first three weeks, New York needs to lock horns with old friend Aaron Rodgers, division enemy Josh Allen, and the resurgent Baker Mayfield.

The offensive line has oodles of potential, as four projected starters heading into Week 1 were still on their rookie contracts. However, Vera-Tucker's injury has already thrown a wrench into their plans, as fellow veteran John Simpson has been trying to work his way back to full health.

Fields will obviously be what determines the ceiling for this team. If he finally puts it all together, there's no reason why this team can't challenge for a Wild Card spot. If he struggles like he did in Chicago and Pittsburgh, he may blow his last chance as an NFL starter.

As long as Jets fans can get some signs that indicate Glenn has had a positive impact on the culture and that winning days will be here again once he gets the right players in town, that could help make up for a lack of immediate results.
