The New York Jets haven't exactly been ready to swat down any trade rumours surrounding running back Breece Hall. With big extensions for stars like Garrett Wilson and Sauce Gardner, the idea of Hall lasting in New York long-term may not be as assured as it has been in years past.

Hall, who struggled with injuries in 2024, needs to show the Jets that he is worth paying despite all the other big contracts that will eventually crunch this team's financial flexibility. As many outlets are well aware, a poor season from Hall could be so destructive to his value that he is unlikely to earn a multi-year contract in New York.

Pro Football Focus listed Hall as the Jets' representative on their "make-or-break" list ahead of the 2025 season. The mental mistakes from last season were called out by PFF, as Hall's six fumbles and eight dropped passes signified that his decline was sharp enough to get people concerned.

Hall may have amassed 1,359 yards from scrimmage and eight touchdowns last season, but the abundance of dump-off catches in the passing game and his decline in yards per carry suggest that he left a good chunk of meat on the bone last season.

The Jets have also been very open about their desire to split touches between multiple running backs, including a pair of second-year starlets in Braelon Allen and Isaiah Davis. Hall likely will earn the lion's share of carries, but he won't be blowing out those other two in terms of carries.

While Hall could thrive in an offense that is committed to running the ball behind one of the best young offensive lines in the AFC, he needs to show that the same explosive player from the pre-Aaron Rodgers era is still there. If not, Aaron Glenn has no loyalty to someone he didn't bring to New York.

Fans should be optimistic with regards to how well Hall will perform now that the Jets are building an offense based around him, but the pressure is on. Glenn is likely not going to tolerate a slow start, and both Allen and Davis are ready to go if he falters.
