The New York Jets held their annual Green & White Scrimmage on Saturday, officially capping off their second full week of training camp. The practice was a penalty-filled mess for much of the morning, with those in attendance counting upwards of a dozen flags thrown throughout the day.
Still, while the frequent yellow laundry on the field may not have been entertaining for fans who made the trip to Florham Park, there were still a few notable takeaways — both positive and negative — from the event.
From overachieving roster hopefuls to struggling starters, let's take a look at the biggest winners and losers of the Jets' 2025 Green & White Scrimmage.
Winners and losers from the Jets' Green & White Scrimmage
Winner: RB Isaiah Davis
The Jets' offense as a whole struggled on Saturday, but one player who managed to impress was running back Isaiah Davis. Davis made the most of his extended reps with Braelon Allen on a snap count, making plays as both a runner and a receiver.
Davis had a couple of strong runs early in the day, barreling through cornerback Michael Carter II to pick up a first down on the team's first offensive possession. He later hauled in a 25-yard pass from Tyrod Taylor down the sideline toward the end of the scrimmage.
While much of the attention this summer has gone to Breece Hall and the aforementioned Braelon Allen, Davis is proving he belongs in the Jets' running back rotation entering 2025.
Loser: QB Justin Fields
Justin Fields put together his best practice of the summer to this point on Friday, completing his first 12 passes en route to an excellent all-around performance. The same can't be said about his showing on Saturday, however.
Fields finished the day an abysmal 2-of-10 in the air, including a drop from rookie tight end Mason Taylor. Some of his incompletions were catchable balls, but the Jets' passing game struggles on Saturday can largely be blamed on No. 7.
Fields did flash his running ability with a 25-yard rushing score on the first play of red-zone drills, but the Jets would like to see more consistency in the air from the starting quarterback. Saturday's scrimmage was far from his best showing of the summer.
Winner: CB Sauce Gardner
Sauce Gardner isn't one of those players who needs a strong training camp performance to validate his standing on the roster, but that hasn't stopped him from putting together a fantastic summer to this point.
Gardner was in peak form on Saturday, with SNY's Connor Hughes even remarking that this might be the "best he's seen" from the All-Pro cornerback. He finished the day with multiple PBUs, including one on a pass intended for Mason Taylor.
It seems Gardner isn't content resting on his laurels despite receiving a historic contract extension this offseason. He continues to be arguably the best player on the field every day at Jets camp.
Loser: K Harrison Mevis
Saturday wasn't a day to remember for Jets kicker Harrison Mevis. The former UFL standout connected on just two of his five field goal attempts, garnering boos from the Jets fans in attendance.
Mevis made kicks from 32 and 39 yards out but missed from 42, 47, and 52. He wasn't able to make a single kick longer than 40 yards during the scrimmage. To make matters worse, his competition, Nick Folk, went 4-of-5 on the day, although he did miss a 43-yard attempt.
Despite just re-joining the team this week, Folk clearly has the early edge in the Jets' kicker battle. If Mevis continues to struggle, it wouldn't be a surprise to see the team bring in another player to compete with Folk in his place.
Winner: TE Stone Smartt
Rookie Mason Taylor has garnered much of the attention in the Jets' tight end room this summer, but one player who has quietly put together a strong camp to this point is Stone Smartt.
The ex-Chargers receivers hauled in two touchdown grabs from Tyrod Taylor during Saturday's scrimmage, including a contested grab over backup DE/LB Kingsley Jonathan.
Smartt doesn't offer much upside as a blocker, but the former college quarterback and wide receiver could carve out a role as a hybrid receiving threat in the Jets' offense this season. He's flashed his receiving chops throughout camp.
Loser: Injuries
Four Jets players left Saturday's scrimmage early with injuries. Wide receiver Josh Reynolds limped off the field in the morning with an undisclosed injury, but seems to be fine. The same can't be said for Xavier Gipson, who exited with a shoulder injury and did not return.
Special teams ace/cornerback Kris Boyd also left early with a shoulder injury and had to be carted off the field. Backup safety Jaylin Simpson injured his hamstring and was waived later in the day, while Braelon Allen (knee) was on a limited snap count as a precaution.
Gipson and Boyd's injuries appear to be the most significant. Both players are fighting for roster spots as core special-teamers, and any missed time could really hurt their chances of making the team. Look for undrafted rookie Jamaal Pritchett to see an extended look as a punt returner if Gipson is sidelined.
Winner: CB Jordan Clark
One under-the-radar standout from Saturday's scrimmage who deserves a shoutout is undrafted cornerback Jordan Clark. The son of former NFL safety Ryan Clark spent five years at Arizona State before starting at nickel corner for Notre Dame last season.
Clark is undersized at just 5-foot-9, 184 pounds, but he had a few nice PBUs on Saturday, including one on a pass intended for Malachi Coley. The Jets clearly view Clark as a slot-exclusive defender, but he's thrived in that role this summer.
He seems like a longshot to make the 53-man roster given the Jets' loaded cornerback room, but Clark should have every opportunity to stick around as a backup nickel cornerback on the practice squad if he continues to impress.
