The New York Jets were struggling to get anything positive going with Justin Fields under center for most of the season, but his paltry showing under Aaron Glenn was apparently good enough to put him in the Pro Bowl ranks. Of course, it helps when a dozen quarterbacks in front of him say no.
Fields was reportedly asked to join the Pro Bowl Games after seemingly every AFC quarterback other than Shedeur Sanders and Joe Flacco turned the opportunity down, but the former first-round pick chose not to attend, citing a desire to train in the offseason.
It's hard to say what's more embarrassing: the fact that so many quarterbacks declined an invitation to the Pro Bowl that the selectors eventually got down to Fields, or the fact that Fields thought himself to be above this even. No matter what, this takes even more shine off the Pro Bowl.
Jets quarterback Justin Fields declines Pro Bowl invite
Fields didn't turn the ball over very often with the Jets, but with multiple starts under 60 yards passing to his name, he was as painful as it got moving the ball. The losses to Denver and Carolina can be placed almost entirely on Fields, who threw seven touchdowns and one interception in 2025, putting together bottom-tier production.
While Tyrod Taylor was far from a great quarterback last season, the offense at least looked like a real offense and could execute some of Tanner Engstrand's concepts. Jets fans went crazy looking at all of the wide-open wide receivers Fields refused to throw to.
Fields is still under contract for next season, but all signs point to the Jets either bringing in a veteran stopgap or taking a swing on a young quarterback in the 2026 NFL Draft, which could lead to Fields getting booted out of town.
The Pro Bowl went from a full-speed game in Hawaii to what was at least a cool vacation to the Aloha State. Now you get backup quarterbacks playing carnival games and dodgeball while a flag football game accounts for nearly 200 points of scoring. This game used to be a defining metric when considering someone's legacy.
Fields technically becoming a Pro Bowl quarterback in a year where he was unplayable as it got for more than half of the campaign would be yet another funny cherry on top of a year that this fanbase will likely be all too quick to throw down the drain.
