New York Jets starting quarterback Justin Fields is no stranger to the hype train, just as he isn't unfamiliar with having to handle critics over the course of his career.
Speaking of his critics who have often said he's been limited as a passer, they might want to look away from this latest video out of Jets OTAs because Fields drops an absolute dime to wide receiver Josh Reynolds.
It's also worth noting that this long completion happened to take place in the rain.
Forget the fact that this is just OTAs, that was a pretty pass from Fields to Reynolds. It's certainly something Jets fans could get used to seeing.
Justin Fields has been subject to way-too-early hype before
If you asked Chicago Bears fans, this is an all-too-familiar feeling. However, in Chicago, Fields had to do a lot of the work on his own. Chicago failed to set him up for success and put a poor offensive line in front of him for the majority of his time with the Bears.
Last season, despite going 4-2 as a starter for the Pittsburgh Steelers, the team still turned to Russell Wilson when they saw him return to health. He's played good ball before, in spite of weakness around him and even a lack of genuine belief from his coaching staff, at times.
The rocket arm and zip in which Fields throws with makes it real easy to fall in love with these practice plays, but to be frank, it's not hard to love what you see from him on an NFL field as well.
Sure, the inconsistencies have been there as a passer. But, if he can finally put it together in New York, Fields is going to start changing the narrative which some have long-believed about him.
To become not only a threat with his legs, but a consistent threat as a passer, would give him a real shot at being a franchise type quarterback.
