The NY Jets will undergo a complete rebuild this offseason. The team already fired former head coach Robert Saleh. On Tuesday, general manager Joe Douglas joined Saleh on the unemployment line.

SNY's Connor Hughes was the first to report that the Jets had parted ways with their former general manager after 5+ years with the organization. Douglas departs the Jets with a 30-64 career record which ranks among the worst in franchise history.

The Douglas firing signals a changing of the guards in Florham Park. Saleh is gone, Douglas is gone, and soon Aaron Rodgers will likely join them.

Hughes went on to suggest that the Jets are expected to pursue a new quarterback in the offseason. The Rodgers era is coming to an end after two disappointing seasons.

NY Jets will move on from Aaron Rodgers after Joe Douglas firing

Reports have suggested that Rodgers is prioritizing continuity with his NFL future. If the Jets were willing to retain interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich and a similar coaching staff along with Douglas, there was every chance that Rodgers would be back in 2025.

By firing Douglas, the Jets have confirmed that they will be undergoing a complete organizational overhaul in the offseason. That includes Rodgers.

Douglas entered this season in the final year of the six-year contract he signed with the Jets prior to the 2019 season. The expectation has been that the Jets would part ways with Douglas once his contract expired at the end of the year.

Instead, Jets owner Woody Johnson decided to get a head start on his team's general manager search while also affording Douglas an opportunity to really dive into searching for his next destination.

Douglas is already rumored to be searching for real estate in the Baltimore area. A return to the Ravens after spending 15 years with the organization as a scout makes plenty of sense.

As for the Jets, they will look ahead to a future with a new head coach, a new general manager, and, in all likelihood, a new quarterback. The Rodgers era is effectively over.
