One of the deeper positions the New York Jets currently boast is their running back room.
The newly extended Breece Hall is the Jets' lead back, of course, and they have some quality depth in 2024 draft picks Braelon Allen and Isaiah Davis.
Allen missed nearly all of the 2025 season with a tough leg injury suffered in Week against the Miami Dolphins. His rookie season showed flashes of greatness, but he never seemed able to put it all together.
Davis, after Allen's injury, was a solid change-of-pace back for New York last year. He carried the ball 43 times for 236 yards and one touchdown, for an average of 5.5 yards per rushing attempt.
Is it possible the Jets could move on from one of their running backs and open the door for a new face to contribute in New York's backfield?
Jets could trade Isaiah Davis to sell high and give UDFA Chip Trayanum a chance
Bleacher Report's Moe Moton compiled a list of one player every NFL team should consider trading ahead of the 2026 NFL season, and for the Jets, he tabbed Davis.
"Braelon Allen and Isaiah Davis will be limited in backup duties, though the latter has shown the ability to take on a three-down role. The Jets may prefer to develop Allen rather than trade him because he's only 22 years old. Davis turned 24 in February, and he's a third-stringer with little room for a move up the depth chart."Moe Moton
The Jets could be selling low on Davis, but with only two years remaining on his rookie contract, they may be able to get a 2027 Day 3 pick for the former South Dakota State standout's services.
In reality, the real draw for dealing with the young running back is opening the door for a new player to step into New York's backfield rotation, and that could be undrafted free agent running back Chip Trayanum.
In his final season of college football at Toledo, Trayanum carried the ball 182 times for 1,015 yards and scored 12 touchdowns.
His production may not immediately carry over to the NFL, but with less depth in front of him, he'[d have a better shot of making the final roster.
Trayanum's ability in the return game could be the deciding factor in what gets him a final roster spot. If he can prove consistency throughout the summer and into training camp, his odds should only skyrocket.
