Jets' triumph over Browns in Week 10 helped them earn much more than a win

The New York Jets looked like they were throwing in the towel on the 2025 NFL season at the trade deadline. After trading away both Sauce Gardner and Quinnen Williams, it was obvious that the Jets were playing the long game, and this year was not their priority.

Expectations were incredibly low for their Week 10 matchup, despite it being a home game against the lowly 2-6 Cleveland Browns. But thanks to a cluster of special teams touchdowns, Aaron Glenn and Co. were able to eke out a 27-20 win at MetLife Stadium on Sunday.

With a 2-7 record now and a high strength of schedule, the Jets moved back to having the No. 5 overall pick if the season ended today. They won the game, and they lost their ultra-premier draft pick, but they earned something that is perhaps more impactful in their triumph over the Browns.

Jets' win over Browns gives them better record than Giants in last 5 years

Late on Sunday night, The Ringer's Sheil Kapadia brought a fact to life that many Jets fans will love. Kapadia pointed out that, after the Jets' win and the New York Giants' loss to the Chicago Bears, the Jets now have a better record than the Giants over the last five seasons.

Whereas the Jets are now an unimpressive 25-52 since the start of the 2021 NFL season, the Giants are an even less impressive 24-53-1. While the Giants did have a playoff appearance in 2022, that makes this statistic all the more frustrating for fans of the Big Blue.

To make matters even worse for the Giants, they are now in limbo with the firing of head coach Brian Daboll on Monday. Offensive coordinator Mike Kafka, who has led a unit that is currently 24th in the NFL in scoring, will take over as the interim.

It may feel like a consolation prize for another brutal Jets campaign, but being the best in New York City (or East Rutherford) still matters. Plus, the last time these two teams played, the Jets came out on top in an ugly 13-10 win back in September of 2023.

The Giants have a promising core and a potential solution under center to look forward to. But the Jets have a solid core of their own, and they are equipped with five first-round picks in the next two drafts. Darren Mougey would have to make a concerted effort to squander this opportunity.

Even at their lowest point, the Jets still found a way to one-up the Giants. There are also a handful of winnable games still on the schedule for the Jets, and while this may hurt their draft position, it would widen their lead for city supremacy.
