Jets tank is now so wretched that is on par with "Buttfumble" loss

The NY Jets' desire to lose the remainder of their 2025 games in the name of securing one of the top picks in the 2026 NFL Draft has led to Aaron Glenn and company getting the stuffing knocked out of them against the New England Patriots.

The "Buttfumble" game in which Mark Sanchez famously coughed it up by raming into his own lineman, was a 49-19 loss that was at one point 35-3 in favor of New England when halftime rolled around. In Week 17, the Jets found themselves right back in that exact same laughabke spot.

The Patriots scored five touchdowns on five drives in the first half, four of which were touchdown passes from MVP candidate Drake Maye. New England is fully back to their status as one of the best teams in the AFC, all while the Jets continue to get pounded into paste.

New England's 32-point halftime lead was their biggest since that fateful buttfumble game. Their sixth drive of the game became their sixth touchdown, making the 42-3 road lead the absolute rock bottom fans have seen from Glenn in his first season.

Patriots beating Jets in Week 17 as badly as they did in Buttfumble game

On one hand, Glenn, who is heading towards a 3-13 beginning to life as Jets head coach, has spent the month of December getting annihilated by the Dolphins, Jaguars, and Saints before this New England embarrassment. Fans who are claiming he should not return in 2026 based on this performance have plenty of fuel for their fire.

However, the Jets are not fielding an NFL team. Jordan Clark and Dean Clark are UDFA DBs who should not be anywhere close to starting, Mason Taylor and Garrett Wilson are out, and Brady Cook has performed so poorly that it's impossible to formulate a proper gameplan around him.

The Jets are looking forward to 2026, as evidenced by the fact they are in essence "tanking" by starting Cook over Tyrod Taylor. With Indiana's Fernando Mendoza and Oregon's Dante Moore available in the NFL Draft, New York is willing to take these losses in the name of positioning themselves for one of these players.

Glenn had better starting winning in 2026. While he needs to be given a chance to enact his vision after tearing the roster down to the studs in the name of building for the future, fans are not going to be too excited if he starts out slowly once again.
