The New York Jets finally got their first win of the season this past Sunday against the Cincinnati Bengals. The vibes are high with the Jets, as they started the year off at 0-7. But even with this win, the expectation is that the Jets are going to sell at the trade deadline.

Names like Jermaine Johnson and Quinnen Williams are unlikely to be traded, but that doesn't mean the team isn't going to do business. As it turns out, Jets general manager Darren Mougey has already gotten things started less than a week before the trade deadline.

According to ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter, the Jets are trading cornerback Michael Carter II to the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for wide receiver John Metchie II. The teams are also swapping late-round picks in 2027.

Jets begin potential fire sale after trading Michael Carter II to Eagles

It is far from a major trade for the Jets, as Carter isn't a big name like Hall or Williams. But maybe this is the first domino to fall before the Nov. 4 trade deadline.

Carter had been a reliable presence in the Jets' secondary, spanning throughout the Robert Saleh tenure. Through five years (65 games, 25 starts), Carter recorded 223 total tackles, 26 passes defended, 10 tackles for loss, and two interceptions.

It makes sense why the Eagles would be interested in Carter, as he could provide much-needed secondary depth as they make a push to repeat as Super Bowl champions.

As for the return, Metchie is now on his third team since being drafted in 2022 by the Houston Texans. Metchie missed his rookie season after battling leukemia. Through two active seasons on the Texans, Metchie was more of a complementary option in the passing game, catching 40-of-67 targets for 412 yards and a touchdown.

Metchie was traded to the Eagles this past offseason in exchange for tight end Harrison Bryant. That said, he hasn't been much of a factor for the Eagles, as he caught all four targets he's received for 18 yards.

The Jets do have a need at wide receiver, so maybe Metchie can get going with a likely expanded role. But now, Jets fans will no doubt wonder which players will be traded next.
