Jets sign intriguing UFL breakout star after another WR injury

For the second time in two days, the Jets have waived an injured wide receiver and immediately signed a replacement, this time in the form of former Boise State standout Cam Camper. It's a tough business, folks.

The Jets waived wide receiver/tight end hybrid Gee Scott with an injury designation on Friday after he suffered a calf injury during Thursday’s practice. The move came one day after the Jets waived Jalen Walthall, who injured his hamstring in the same practice, and signed former Vanderbilt wide receiver Quincy Skinner Jr. to take his place.

Skinner never had a season with over 400 yards at the collegiate level and doesn't project as an obvious camp standout. Camper, however, comes with a little more intrigue. The former UFL star emerged as one of the league’s surprise breakout receivers this spring.

Camper is a 6-foot-3, 198-pound wide receiver and New Jersey native who spent the spring with the Orlando Storm.

He finished the 2026 UFL season with 366 receiving yards and three touchdowns, producing a handful of highlight-reel plays along the way. His biggest moment came on a 74-yard catch-and-run touchdown, and he also made an impressive leaping grab along the sideline later in the season.

Camper’s NFL opportunity comes one year after the Jacksonville Jaguars signed him as an undrafted free agent out of Boise State. A back injury derailed his first NFL camp, and he failed to make the roster.

His final college season offered plenty of reasons for NFL teams to keep tabs on him, though. Camper transferred to Boise State after previously playing at Indiana, where he shared a locker room with current Jets wide receiver Omar Cooper Jr.

He earned second-team All-Mountain West honors in 2024 after catching 58 passes for 903 yards and four touchdowns, easily the most productive season of his college career.

His athletic profile is also respectable. Camper posted an 8.19 Relative Athletic Score, ran a 4.51-second 40-yard dash, and recorded an excellent 10-yard split. And he certainly brings more size than most receivers fighting for the final spots on the Jets’ depth chart.

Camper actually participated in a tryout with the Jets at their mandatory minicamp in June before returning for another workout this week. The Jets have now decided to give him a longer look.

Camper undoubtedly faces an uphill battle to stick around this summer. The Jets have continued cycling through wide receivers at the bottom of the depth chart, and he will need to make an immediate impression in practice and the preseason.

Still, his size, athleticism, and UFL breakout give him a more interesting resume than the average late-summer addition. It's at least possible that the Jets found a legitimate camp sleeper in Cam Camper.
