Jets rookie starring through four games is a massive win for Darren Mougey

While many New York Jets fans are starting to get after general manager Darren Mougey due to the lack of contributions from some of the later draft picks from his first NFL Draft class, he appears to have found two locked-in starters for the next few years in tight end Mason Taylor and right tackle Armand Membou.

Even on a Jets offensive line that came into the season with a great deal of hype, Membou might be performing the best out of all five starters to this point. Compared to many of the other rookies out there in the NFL, Membou has been excelling to the point where the national media is taking notice.

Pro Football Focus ranked Membou as their No. 10 rookie in all of football through four weeks. Keep in mind that some of the players ranked ahead of him are either backups with a limited sample size or players who suffered injuries and haven't played all four games.

Even though Membou is still a ways away from elite as a pass blocker, he has already proven to be one of the best run-blocking tackles in the AFC just one month into his professional career. Membou has been everything the Jets thought he could be, and then some.

Even when compared to all the other non-rookie tackles out there in the league, Membou comes in at a solid 12th in PFF's eyes. Once he adjusts to NFL-level pass rush moves, Membou should be able to ascend from a good tackle to a great one in fairly short order.

It's not unrealistic to say that if Membou sustains this level of production, he might be the best rookie right tackle the league has seen in a few years. Mougey went for the safer option when it came time to use his No. 7 overall pick, and that seems to have been a massive victory for him so far.

If Membou is a big of a hit as he appears to be, the Jets may have both of their tackle spots figured out with him on one side and left tackle Olu Fashanu on the other.

Mougey needs time to build his ideal roster, but the selection of Membou has already proven to be one of the better decisions that he has made in his time with the Jets.
