The New York Jets will hit the road for the first time this season as they face off against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. It'll be the first of two back-to-back Florida road trips, as Aaron Glenn still searches for his first win.
One of the biggest matchups to watch in this game will be Jets rookie right tackle Armand Membou facing off against former Jet Haason Reddick. For Jets fans, Reddick's disastrous 2024 season was just another example of everything that went wrong last year.
After holding out of the offseason program and training camp, Reddick requested a trade in August. It wasn't until the Jets were 2-5 and losers of four straight that the All-Pro pass rusher decided to show up.
After posting four straight double-digit sack seasons, Reddick tallied just one sack and a career-worst 52.9 Pro Football Focus pass rush grade. It was an unmitigated disaster.
Fast forward one year, and the Jets will see Haason Reddick for the first time in Buccaneer red, as he carries one sack and eleven pressures into this Week 3 showdown.
The soon-to-be 31-year-old pass rusher has lined up on the left side of the defensive line in 89% of his snaps this season, which means it'll be up to Armand Membou to stop the revenge game attempt.
Armand Membou needs to slow down Haason Reddick in Jets' Week 3 matchup
Armand Membou opened up his NFL career with a dominant debut against the Pittsburgh Steelers. The seventh-overall pick tallied an 89.0 Pro Football Focus grade and an eye-popping 90.3 run blocking grade.
In 26 pass blocking snaps, Membou didn't allow any sacks, hurries, pressures, or QB hits. The Missouri product had the best overall grade by a rookie tackle in Week 1 since at least 2006.
Unfortunately for the Jets offense and Membou himself, Week 2 wasn't more of the same. The 21-year-old finished with a 63.4 PFF grade, which was a 25.6 point drop off from the previous week. Membou also saw a significant drop-off in his run blocking grade (65.3) and pass blocking grade (58.3).
After a flawless debut, the rookie right tackle allowed three pressures and one QB hit on 31 pass blocking snaps. Membou's impact run-block rate also saw a significant drop-off, finishing at 6.3% against Buffalo, which was down 24.3% from Week 1.
Despite last week's performance, the positives have still outweighed the negatives when looking at Membou through two games. His 81.6 PFF grade leads all rookie offensive tackles. Plus, his 86.9 run blocking grade and 5.4% pressure rate allowed are both top-five among rookie offensive tackles.
Whether it was Aaron Rodgers throwing four touchdowns in Week 1 or Elijah Moore scoring a touchdown and doing backflips, the Jets have let former players have success against them so far this season.
Membou will need to have a bounce-back game against Haason Reddick on Sunday afternoon to avoid another successful revenge game.
