The NY Jets are unveiling their rookie class for the first time at Aaron Glenn's inaugural OTAs, and the early returns on some of their new offensive additions have been so enticing that it's hard for fans not to get overly excited about what this season will bring.

Per Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic, both second-round tight end Mason Taylor and fourth-round wide receiver Arian Smith have emerged as some of the standouts from the early days of OTAs. Quotes from Glenn himself further reinforce the notion that some of Darren Mougey's first skill position picks are handling themselves well.

Glenn said that Taylor was "exactly who we thought he was" after his first few days of OTAs, showing off his sticky hands and ability to make moves in the open field. While many outside observers expected Taylor to hit the ground running, the immediate success Smith has been having will make this pick look more attractive.

“Arian has some juice, doesn’t he?” Glenn said. “He can run, and he’s bouncy and he’s a really good athlete. I thought the first day he went out and he was focused on seeing through the ball and making sure he can bring it in.” Smith, who said he was timed at 4.28 in the 40-yard dash at Georgia, believes he can be more than just a speed guy.

Taylor figures to start immediately over the disappointing Jeremy Ruckert and extremely limited Stone Smartt. Given his blend of athletic ability, strong hands, and strong blocking skills, Taylor is a high-floor player who will help out Justin Fields immediately.

Smith is a bigger risk, as the fourth-round selection was not projected to be taken until the end of Day 3 by many analysts. Smith led Georgia in receiving yards, but his issues with drops were so concerning that many teams considered him to be radioactive.

Glenn has compared Smith to another former Lions player in Jameson Williams, who has overcome drop issues to become one of the best WR2s in the league. The speed is obvious, and that will challenge even solid NFL athletes.

If the Jets can surround Justin Fields with a solid starting tight end in Taylor and a deep threat in Smith that can take some of the pressure off Garrett Wilson, look for this offense to take a step forward under Glenn and Tanner Engstrand.
