Jets offense justifies preseason expectations in Week 1 victory over Titans

All offseason long, there was reason to believe that the New York Jets might have an exciting offense. Their strong offensive line retained four of five starters, and adding a healthy Garrett Wilson to the mix of Breece Hall, Adonai Mitchell, and Kenyon Sadiq provided optimism.

Well, in their season-opening win over the Tennessee Titans, they lived up to most of those expectations. Geno Smith orchestrated multiple elongated scoring drives and pushed the ball downfield on several occasions.

The Jets' offensive line looked dominant, pushing around the Titans' defensive front and opening up wide-open rushing lanes for both Hall and Braelon Allen. Hall had 22 carries for 102 yards and a touchdown, while Allen had 10 carries for 40 yards, including a touchdown wiped away by a Josh Myers holding call.

Throughout the offseason and into the later parts of the summer, there were certain expectations for the Jets, particularly on offense, that they would be a fun offensive team. It's just one game, and the sample size is small, but the early returns look good.

It wasn't always pretty, and they lost a fairly important piece early on when rookie Omar Cooper Jr. left the game with an ankle injury, but the Jets offense did what they needed to do to get the 23-10 win. Their opening drive set the pace for the day, with the Jets scoring a touchdown on their first possession of the season since opening day 2016.

An out-of-bounds kick from Joey Slye set New York up on their own 40-yard line, and a Cooper 30-yard catch and run to the Tennessee 4-yard line put them in prime scoring position. Sadiq, the No. 16 overall pick in this past April's draft, reached a top speed of 20.09 miles per hour on his touchdown run, the fastest for a Jets tight end in the Next Gen Stats era.

From there, there were some ups and downs, including some sloppy operation from the offense to end the first half. But all in all, it was an incredibly positive day for the Jets, and fans should be excited about their potential in 2026.

As long as Smith can continue the way he played Sunday afternoon, completing 19-of-24 pass attempts for 215 yards, one touchdown, and zero interceptions, the Jets offense should be high-flying and fun.

Next up, a stiffer test in Week 2 against the Green Bay Packers, who may have a bit more talent than the squad the Jets saw in Week 1.
