If the New York Jets are unable to land one of the top picks in the 2026 NFL Draft and select a new franchise quarterback like Fernando Mendoza or Dante Moore, it seems likely that Aaron Glenn and Darren Mougey will pivot to another veteran option like Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray.

Murray, who appears to be on his way out in the desert after the Cardinals deactivated him following his latest injury. A trade could be coming, and the Jets seem like a team that needs an immediate upgrade.

However, according to Jeff Howe of The Athletic, Murray is not expected to have a very robust trade market, with his contract and injury problems raising some collective eyebrows around the league.

If the Jets are interested in Murray, this could be a good sign on two fronts. Not only will there be fewer teams to outbid if Arizona is giving up on the former No. 1 overall pick, but they might not have to surrender a ton of long-term assets in order to bring him to New York.

Jets may not have competition on trade market for Kyler Murray

Murray still has two more years left in his gargantuan five-year contract, and the 5-foot-10 quarterback is dealing with questions about both injury concerns and how well his style of play will age. However, at just 29 years old, Murray might be a solid fit with the Jets, who have oodles of cap space to absorb his contract.

Murray's arm talent is still exemplary, and he is always a playmaking threat with his legs. Part of why his play declined in Arizona was a questionable offensive line outside of Paris Johnson Jr. In New York, Murray would be kept clean more often.

While Jacoby Brissett has better passing stats than Murray this year, Arizona has still won just one of his 10 starts. Team and player alike need a fresh start, and New York could be the place for Murray to get back on track if they are unable to land a top passer in the Draft.

Murray is going to get one more shot to be a quality starting quarterback in this league if teams get desperate enough, and with the Jets in need of a spark to give fans something to get excited about, look for New York to be at the front of the hypothetical line for Murray.
