Jets make huge trade to secure missing piece in Daniel Jeremiah's recent mock draft

Is the price worth the player?

Thanks to their wide array of premium draft capital, the New York Jets have an opportunity heading into the 2026 NFL Draft to get creative and move around the board as they please.

They have several holes to fill, the largest being wide receiver. New York has likely been hoping throughout the pre-draft process that they'll be able to land one of the top pass catchers with their second first-round pick, No. 16 overall.

But as the day of the draft inches closer and closer, it's seeming increasingly likely that all three of the class's top wideouts are going to be off the board before then. Ohio State's Carnell Tate, Arizona State's Jordyn Tyson, and USC's Makai Lemon could all be taken ahead of the Jets.

That's why Daniel Jeremiah's latest mock draft has the Jets getting aggressive and trading back into the top 10 for a wide receiver of their choosing.

Appearing on SportsCenter, Jeremiah ran through a quick mock draft of the top 10 picks in the 2026 NFL Draft, and had the Jets selecting Texas Tech edge rusher David Bailey at No. 2, and trading with the Washington Commanders for pick No. 7, adding Tate to their wide receiver room.

The Tate addition makes a ton of sense. New York needs wide receivers, and the Buckeye is arguably the best of the bunch in this class. It would be a decent amount of capital headed to Washington, but the Ohio State standout may be worth it.

"This is about an opportunity here for the New York Jets to move up, to be aggressive in this draft...They add Carnell Tate to team up with a fellow Ohio State Buckeye in Garrett Wilson. They have the ability, they have the capacity to be aggressive in this draft...and they're another team that's looking specifically at that wide receiver spot."

There's a reason why the Jets may have to move back into the top 10 to get a wide receiver of their choosing. The Miami Dolphins and Los Angeles Rams are two teams that have had a reported interest in the position, and it may force New York to jump them in the draft order.

However, there's still a chance that one of Lemon or Tyson falls to No. 16. There have been rumors about both players sliding down boards thanks to injuries and other non-football-related issues. It would be risky, but the Jets could take a gamble and see if they can get a wide receiver without trading up.

If Darren Mougey and Aaron Glenn are in love with Tate, though, and feel like he's the guy who will help take the Jets offense to another level, they should absolutely be aggressive to go up and get him.
