The New York Jets have been dealing with a rash of injuries at the cornerback position, with Nahshon Wright, Qwan'tez Stiggers, and Mory Bamba all sidelined at practice on Tuesday. Because of that, the Jets needed to make an addition.
New York is signing cornerback Keenan Garber and edge Nate Lynn, and in a corresponding move, they're cutting ties with defensive lineman Ben Barten and waiving edge rusher Kingsley Jonathan with an injury designation, per The Athletic's Zack Rosenblatt.
With Wright, Stiggers, and Bamba all sitting out with their own injuries, Garber should get plenty of playing time this week while the Jets' other cornerbacks recover.
In the same vein, Lynn should see plenty of reps as well. Joseph Ossai is still ramping up, working his way back from the Physically Unable to Perform list. Both players will surely get some run Friday night when the Jets take on the Pittsburgh Steelers.
New York Jets make 2 defensive signings, cut 2 defensive players
Garber is the player most likely to receive the most playing time between himself and Lynn. A former undrafted free agent out of Kansas State, the former Wildcat standout spent time with the Minnesota Vikings, Indianapolis Colts, and Detroit Lions in 2025.
He didn't appear in any regular-season games between those three teams last year, but he surely got a lot of experience learning from the likes of Brian Flores and Lou Anarumo. He'll have a chance to prove himself to the Jets coaching staff.
Once Brandon Stephens and Azareye'h Thomas come off the field in Pittsburgh on Friday night, expect to see plenty of reps from Garber.
Lynn, the other defender the Jets signed, has previous ties to Jets head coach Aaron Glenn. The William & Mary edge rusher signed with the Lions as an undrafted free agent following the 2024 NFL Draft and spent the entire season on Detroit's practice squad when Glenn was still the defensive coordinator.
Surely, Glenn will have an idea of how to best utilize Lynn's talents, having served as his first coach when he came into the league.
