In a shocking twist, Texas Tech quarterback Brendan Sorsby will, in fact, be playing college football this season, according to ESPN's Pete Thamel.

"A judge in district court in Lubbock County, Texas, has granted the injunction requested by Texas Tech QB Brendan Sorsby. He’s set to be eligible for the 2026 season," wrote Thamel in a post on X. "He’s set to be eligible for the 2026 season."

Sorsby, who played for the Cincinnati Bearcats in 2025, admitted to betting $90,000 across 9,000 different bets throughout his collegiate career. Including a bet on the Hoosiers when he was enrolled at Indiana.

The judge who oversaw Sorsby's case concluded that the quarterback would "suffer a probable, imminent and irreparable injury," per Thamel.

Now, the New York Jets have no supplemental draft to worry about, and they can turn their attention back to the quarterbacks they already have on the roster.

The NCAA, which initially ruled Sorsby would be ineligible to play college football in 2026, is obviously disappointed in the ruling.

"The NCAA strongly disagrees with the court’s ruling in Sorsby's case and is deeply concerned about the damaging, far-reaching and broadly destabilizing ramifications of this outcome — which undermines and corrupts the integrity of sports. The NCAA is committed to supporting student-athlete mental health but must continue to aggressively defend against actions that defraud college athletics and threaten competitive integrity, such as betting on one's own sport."

Despite regaining his eligibility, Sorsby will be suspended for the first two games of Texas Tech's season. On the surface, it seems like that is the only penalty the young quarterback was receiving.

Over the last few months, there was speculation that Sorsby would be forced to enter the supplemental draft, and teams like the Jets, Miami Dolphins, and Cleveland Browns would bid for his services.

Instead, he'll try to raise his stock again and follow up his impressive 2025 season with an even better one with the Red Raiders in 2026.

At least for another year, he's off the Jets' radar. We'll see if any interest is rekindled ahead of the 2027 NFL Draft.
