Jets legend linked to Frank Reich's staff alongside controversial OC name

Jets fans would be jumping for joy with this hire... maybe not so much for the other one.

Now that the New York Jets have their offensive coordinator in Frank Reich, they can begin to fill out the rest of their offensive staff.

Not many holdovers remain from the 2025 staff. Offensive line coach Steve Heiden is expected to remain with the Jets, as well as wide receivers coach Shawn Jefferson. Jefferson was on Reich's Carolina Panthers staff and is a close confidant of star wideout Garrett Wilson.

Still, though, the Jets will be on the lookout for a new quarterbacks coach, running backs coach, and tight ends coach, as well as a run game coordinator and other assistants.

Who else could end up joining Reich on the Jets' offensive staff?

Jets insider Zack Rosenblatt names Kevin Mawae, Kevin Patullo as potential staff additions

The Athletic's Zack Rosenblatt compiled a list of assistant coaches who were with Reich along his many stops across the league, including the Philadelphia Eagles, Indianapolis Colts, and Carolina Panthers.

Easily the most exciting name would be legendary offensive lineman Kevin Mawae, who spent eight seasons of his Hall of Fame career with the Jets from 1998 to 2005. He served as Reich's assistant offensive line coach and tight ends coach from 2021 to 2022 in Indianapolis.

A name that may not bring as much excitement to Jets fans is former Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo, who was demoted this past season after a disappointing season from the Eagles offense.

Patullo and Reich crossed paths in Indianapolis when the former was serving as the Colts' wide receivers coach and later pass game specialist, and Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni has a well-documented relationship with Reich, serving as his OC with the Colts from 2018 to 2020.

It's not far-fetched that Sirianni could recommend Patullo to his mentor as a quarterbacks coach or pass game coordinator. Patullo also has ties to the Jets organization, having spent two years as the team's quarterbacks coach from 2015 to 2016.

Among the other names Rosenblatt floated were Cleveland Browns running backs coach Duce Staley. Staley is still employed by the Browns, but with new head coach Todd Monken set to take over in Cleveland, he could look to revamp the offensive staff. Staley served as the running backs coach and associate head coach in Carolina.

Eagles pass game coordinator Parks Frazier could also be a name to keep an eye on. He was the Panthers' pass game coordinator under Reich in 2023 and spent years working under him in Indianapolis.

All in all, these coaches have a lot of experience under their belt, and that's something the Jets sorely missed on their offensive staff this past season. It will be interesting to watch how the rest of the coaching search pans out.
