The New York Jets have officially revealed their initial 53-man roster ahead of the start of the 2025 season. The team made a whopping 39 moves over the last few days to trim their roster down ahead of Tuesday's 4 pm ET deadline.
There were some notable surprises who made the cut, including the likes of offensive lineman Marquis Hayes, linebacker Zaire Barnes, and wide receiver Xavier Gipson.
On the other hand, a few fan favorites, including Jamaal Pritchett, Brandon Smith, and Jarrick Bernard-Converse, didn’t survive final cuts to make the Jets’ official 53-man roster.
Of course, rosters in the NFL are always fluid. The 53 names listed today almost certainly won’t be the exact 53 the Jets carry into Week 1. The Jets' initial roster is a sign that more moves are coming in the next 24-48 hours.

The Jets are expected to be active on the waiver wire tomorrow, with wide receiver, defensive line, tight end, and even cornerback standing out as positions they could look to address.
Teams have until 12 pm ET tomorrow to place waiver claims, and with the Jets sitting at No. 7 in the waiver order, they should have a golden opportunity to make some notable additions.
While this might be the initial 53-man roster, a few players on the list likely aren't safe. For starters, it seems highly unlikely that the team will carry 10 offensive linemen on its roster into the regular season.
That means surprise roster addition Marquis Hayes could be the odd man out come Wednesday. One of Max Mitchell or Chukwuma Okorafor could also be in danger if the Jets decide to upgrade their offensive tackle depth.
The Jets are also likely to scour the tight end market on the waiver wire. The only player in that room who is safe is probably rookie Mason Taylor, whereas the likes of Jeremy Ruckert and Stone Smartt could still be on the bubble.
The Jets could also undergo some shuffling in their defensive line room. While guys like Braiden McGregor, fifth-round rookie Tyler Baron, and Leonard Taylor III made the original 53-man roster, they're far from locks for the Week 1 team.
It seems pretty clear from the Jets’ initial 53-man roster that changes are on the horizon. NFL rosters are never truly set on cutdown day, and the next few days will almost certainly bring more movement.
