Jets' Geno Smith makes bold prediction about his return to Pro Bowl form

Could Smith be back and better than ever?

When the New York Jets traded for Geno Smith, there was plenty of reason to be optimistic, despite his most recent struggles.

The Jets' 2013 second-round pick was once thought of as the potential long-term solution to New York's quarterback woes. Instead, Smith struggled, IK Enemkpali got angry, and the rest is history.

But a little more than a decade later, Smith is back with the Jets, and with some more experience under his belt. Several good seasons with the Seattle Seahawks put the veteran in the upper tier of starting quarterbacks.

Until last season. Smith was brutal for the Las Vegas Raiders and led the league in interceptions. Despite his struggles, the 35-year-old believes he's better than he's ever been in his career and is ready for his Jets redemption arc.

In an interview with NFL Network's Judy Battista, Smith doubled down on his self-confidence and thinks he's primed for his best season.

"Yeah, I'm way better than I was back then, even those Pro Bowl years. And, you know, sometimes the stats don't always tell the story. I've gotten better in the last two seasons as well. And, you know, for me, it's about getting better every single day, not looking too far ahead or too far behind. And, you know, I just focus on what's going on today and, you know, leading this team today and being the best that I can be."

Considering Smith is coming off one of the worst seasons of his career since his early Jets days, his claim is bold, to say the least.

In order to be better than his Pro Bowl seasons in 2022 and 2023, Smith will have to have his completion percentage in the high 60s, throw for at least 3,500 yards, and maintain a touchdown-to-interception ratio of 2-1.

If he can pull that off, the 12-year veteran could have one of the best individual quarterback seasons in franchise history, and that may be enough for the team to keep him around for one more year.

Smith coming back to the Jets after a decade has the chance to be an all-time storyline. He just has to live up to his claim that he's never been a better quarterback than he is now.
