Jets fans may come back to Arvell Reese after David Bailey's Pro Day

As New York Jets Twitter debates if Ohio State's Arvell Reese, Texas Tech's David Bailey, or Miami's Rueben Bain Jr. should be the pick at No. 2 overall in the 2026 NFL Draft, fans have now resorted to using individual screenshots from out-of-context drills in order to claim superiority.

After Bain impressed with a solid pro-day showing, Reese didn't look as quick or comfortable doing defensive line drills ahead of a planned pro conversion to pass rusher. Because of a few screenshots and seconds-long clips, fans decided to declare Reese the worst player in football history and move their attention to Bailey.

Bailey strutted his stuff at Texas Tech's Pro Day, and his bend also looked to be fairly unremarkable. Fans who immediately abandoned Reese, if they are consistent, should do the same for Bailey after this showing, right?

Or, in all likelihood, fans need to take a minute to decompress and realize that arguing over details like this doesn't bring anyone closer to the answer.

David Bailey's pro day should help Jets fans move back to Arvell Reese

Anyone claiming that Reese is not a premium athlete on the edge is either trying to be contrarian or speaking after having not watched his film. His power, versatility, and explosion off the snap are all going to be traits that will help the 20-year-old dynamo make a transition to the pros.

Sure, he isn't the bendiest pass rusher in the world, but decisions like the No. 2 pick aren't made based on performance in one or two drills. Bailey may end up being the pick, but if he wins out, it will be because of his more defined role in the pros, not because of one or two drills.

Arguing that Bailey is a better pure pass rusher than either Bain or Reese is a fair assessment, but it's also not groundbreaking. Bailey's inferior run defense and limited versatility are two of the main reasons pick No. 2 is still a debate, and it may not be settled until the Jets actually make their pick.

Prospect fatigue is a real thing, and Jets fans who are likely sick of dissecting every minutiae of Reese and Bailey are now getting so intense that every step and turn of their hips is being categorized as make-or-break. The fickle nature of draft analysis is being taken to overdrive, and Jets fans need to take a chill pill.
