A flurry of roster moves, if you will.

The New York Jets, after losing kicker Blake Grupe today to the Los Angeles Rams, did some rearranging on their practice squad, per The New York Post's Brian Costello. But first, they said goodbye to veteran linebacker Troy Reeder.

Reeder, who was a priority waiver claim for the Jets on roster cutdown day in late August, was signed to the active roster following the team's Week 2 loss to the Green Bay Packers after an injury knocked out second-year linebacker Kiko Mauigoa. The move could suggest Mauigoa is ready to make his return.

The longtime Rams linebacker appeared in every game for the Jets this season, except for Week 1. He played 81% of special teams snaps and recorded four total tackles.

Costello did note that there's a chance Reeder finds his way back to the Jets' practice squad, but it seems New York is rearranging some things in the wake of Grupe's departure. They released tight end Cody Hardy and signed free agent edge Quinton Bell to take his place.

Bell, a seventh-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, has appeared in 33 games over his professional career. He spent the last two seasons with the Miami Dolphins and likely has some familiarity with Jets defensive coordinator Brian Duker.

What's the next roster move for the New York Jets?

The departure of Reeder leaves a vacant 53-man roster spot for the Jets, and the next question fans are likely asking is what's next?

Well, the Jets have three players eligible to return from injured reserve this week in three rookies. Wide receiver Omar Cooper Jr., offensive lineman Anez Cooper, and safety VJ Payne.

Selfishly, fans are likely really hoping for Cooper to make his return to the field. The Indiana standout tantalized in Week 1 with a 30-yard catch-and-run on his first-ever NFL catch, but immediately exited the game with an ankle injury. His return could add another layer to the Jets' passing offense.

Cooper and Payne are reserve players this early in their NFL careers and are likely in need of more seasoning before making their NFL debuts. Payne could have a role on special teams, but it's unclear if that's something he's capable of yet.

Regardless, the Jets have an open roster spot to work with, and they're sure to fill it one way or another ahead of their Week 6 matchup against the New England Patriots.
