The New York Jets didn't wait long to stamp themselves as a team that is going to do things differently under new head coach Aaron Glenn and GM Darren Mougey, as they decided to eschew their holes at tight end and wide receiver to select Missouri right tackle Armand Membou with the No. 7 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.

For the longest time, it appeared as though the Jets were deciding between either Membou or Penn State tight end Tyler Warren. The need for a right tackle appeared to be more pressing need, which helps the Jets continue their pursuit of a goal that would have been unthinkable just a few years ago.

With five locked in starters, the oldest of whom is left guard John Simpson at just 27 years old, the Jets can build a young offensive line that can become as good as any in the AFC is Membou pans out.

Membou, who posted a ridiculous NFL Combine workout that got interest in him kickstarted, will slot in alongside an offensive line that features three other starters on their rookie contract in left tackle Olu Fashanu, center Joe Tippmann, and right guard Alijah Vera-Tucker.

Getting a player like Warren or Arizona wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan would have been a more flashy move, but considering how Justin Fields can often struggle mightily when pressured, adding Membou could help counteract his biggest weakness while improving the most important non-quarterback unit in the league.

It remains to be seen if Membou will live up to the immense hype he had coming out of college, but the Jets' commitment to building Fields a tremendous offensive line could be what ends up turning them into a team that can compete for a postseason appearance sooner rather than later.
