The NY Jets have seen some wretched coaches take the helm in their franchise history. Just when it looked like there was no possible way anyone could join that Hall of Shame, interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich firmly planted his flag in that camp in the 2024 campaign.

Ulbrich has won just two games since replacing Robert Saleh, who looks like Vince Lombardi in comparison to Ulbrich. Not only has the mighty defense regressed from elite to straight-up bad, but the offense has stagnated. A team with a playoff-caliber roster should not be down 40-0 under any circumstance.

Lou Holtz was completely in over his head, Rich Kotite won four games in two years, and Adam Gase was just a few lucky results away from losing every single game during the 2020 season. After a 40-14 loss to the Buffalo Bills, they have some new company.

Ulbrich's stint as the interim coach, which has been defined by a defensive regression, lack of leadership, and some painful quotes to the media, has helped him seize the mantle of worst coach in franchise history.

Gase was a terrible leader and offensive adaptor, but he can also lean on the fact he had one of the most barren rosters in the league. Sam Darnold on a rookie deal was his quarterback, and he had no receivers.

Kotite won four games in two years, but his teams had nowhere near the level of top-to-bottom talent Ulbrich has been handed. Kotite was also 36-28 and won a playoff game in his time with the Eagles, which gives him more of a pedigree in the NFL than Ulbrich has earned as a coordinator.

Not only has Ulbrich been so bad that he has likely detonated any shot he had at becoming a head coach in the near future, but he also has ruined any shot he had at instantly getting a coordinator job. Without Saleh next to him, Ulbrich's lack of quality as a coordinator has come to fruition.

The Jets have seen some rank coaches come through the ranks in the last few years, but Ulbrich's lack of skill in any of the areas needed to become a great leader has put him in a tier so rank that no other coach in Jets history can claim to be as bad as him.
