Going into their Week 3 matchup against the Detroit Lions, the New York Jets were underdogs. Most sportsbooks had them as at least a touchdown underdog, which made sense. The Lions have been a perennial playoff contender under Dan Campbell, and the Jets have been... well, the Jets.

And hey, the Jets did end up losing by a touchdown, but anyone who watched that game knows New York gave Detroit everything they could handle, including coming back down 24-10 in the fourth quarter to give the Lions a run for their money.

Gang Green came up short, but they fought their tails off and didn't roll over when they went down by two touchdowns. That's a credit to head coach Aaron Glenn and his team for staying in the fight even when things felt like they were getting out of hand.

Lions quarterback Jared Goff, who spent several years with Glenn in Detroit when he was their defensive coordinator, recognized that fight and paid his respects to Glenn after the game.

Goff was mic'd up for his team's Week 3 matchup, and the NFL's X account shared some of his exchanges with Jets players and Glenn at midfield after the game. One thing is clear-- he had major respect for his opposition.

The veteran quarterback first dapped up Geno Smith, calling him a "stud" and telling him to "keep going" after his 300-yard, three-touchdown outing.

Then, Goff gave defensive tackle Harrison Phillips a hug, telling him, "You guys are on your way," giving the Jets props for their progress on the team's hopeful turnaround.

Finally, he met with Glenn and gave probably the biggest compliment he could after a game like that. He said the Jets have their head coach's "identity," and that he could feel it during the battle.

For a team that was 3-14 in 2025 and looked lifeless for a good majority of their first season under the helm of Glenn, there is clearly something different about this 2026 iteration of the franchise.

And that's really what all Jets fans should be searching for this year, and that's signs of life. Of course, everyone wants to see North America's longest playoff drought come to an end, and that may be a tall task in 2026, but as Goff himself said, the team is on its way.

Going up against a talented team like Detroit and giving them all they could handle despite injuries to some of the Jets' best players is a massive step in the right direction. Hopefully, it continues throughout Glenn's second season as head coach.
