Injuries are starting to pile up for the New York Jets. After a relatively healthy summer, the first two weeks of the regular season have not been kind to Gang Green. It started with starting safety Minkah Fitzpatrick and first-round pick Omar Cooper Jr. in Week 1, and continued into Week 2.
Defensive lineman David Onyemata, Arian Smith, and Marcelino McCrary-Ball are all being placed on injured reserve with varying degrees of serious injuries, and Mason Taylor is week-to-week with a thumb injury.
A once promising roster is now starting to look pretty thin, but there was one stroke of good news from head coach Aaron Glenn's Wednesday press conference. Edge Joseph Ossai, who has yet to appear in a game for the Jets this season, has returned to practice.
"Joe Ossai, he'll be limited; he'll be practicing. I can see that progressing throughout the week."Aaron Glenn
Joseph Ossai has chance to make New York Jets debut against Detroit Lions in Week 3
The Ossai development is incredibly positive, considering all the other injuries the Jets are currently dealing with. His addition back into the lineup will certainly give a boost to an already awesome edge rotation.
Ossai started the summer on the Physically Unable to Perform list, but was able to make a return in time for the Jets' preseason finale. Unfortunately, a foot injury suffered in that game against the New York Giants has kept him out for the last two games.
The former Cincinnati Bengals pass rusher was the Jets' big-ticket free agent signing this past spring, inking a three-year, $34.5 million contract with New York. It was the biggest total contract they handed out in March.
Now, he may finally be able to return to the starting lineup, where he was projected to be on opening day across from No. 2 overall pick David Bailey.
New York Jets edge room has been solid without Joseph Ossai
Even though Ossai has been absent, the Jets edges have still been incredibly productive. Bailey has recorded two sacks through his first two games as a pro, and Kingsley Enagbare, who has stepped up in the absence of Ossai, is top-10 in pass-rush wins to start the 2026 season.

-Jeffery Simmons, dear god
-Dallas Turner has arrived
-Boye Mafe being what Bengals need, keeping up PRWR with expanded playing time!

But just because the Jets have been fine without Ossai doesn't mean they haven't missed him. Bringing him back into the fold will only provide a boost to an already solid unit.
It should be noted that just because Ossai was limited in Wednesday's practice doesn't necessarily guarantee his return in Week 3. The Jets may take a cautious approach and wait another game before trotting him back out, as they did with D'Angelo Ponds in Week 2.
