Haason Reddick saga takes another wild turn with no end in sight for NY Jets
By Jason Reed
The New York Jets traded a conditional third-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft and are still waiting for the fruits of their labor. Reddick came to New York needing a new contract and made it clear from the jump he would not play without one.
A holdout that fans hoped would end in training camp extended to the preseason and eventually extended into the regular season. Now, here we are in Week 6 and Reddick still has not played for the team that traded for him.
It has been one of the biggest storylines for a Jets team that has been full of storylines this season. And in classic Jets fashion, the story took an unexpected turn on Thursday as Reddick's own agents at CAA opted to part ways with the two-time Pro Bowler.
Haason Reddick's holdout with the NY Jets doesn't appear to be ending soon
CAA outwardly deciding to not do business with Reddick any longer is pretty telling of the dynamics of this holdout. First, this seemingly indicates that the holdout has been Reddick's doing and that he may have been going against what his agency was advising.
Second, this could indicate that Reddick may not be close to striking a deal anytime soon with the Jets. If a deal was around the corner then CAA would have stuck around to capitalize on said deal. With CAA ending its relationship with Reddick, the agency is essentially admitting that no resolution is in sight.
This is yet another negative turn for Reddick, who has handled this situation as poorly as he could have. In his quest to earn a new contract, Reddick has already forfeited over $4 million in the five games he has sat out and that total will only climb the more he sits out. Not only has he forfeited $4 million, but Reddick's holdout has also accumulated him more than $5 million in fines.
At some point, the rubber has to meet the road with Reddick and the Jets. If Reddick does not report by the Tuesday after Week 10 then the Jets will retain his rights in 2025, not allowing him to reach free agency.
By the looks of it, Reddick might be okay riding this holdout until the 11th hour, only coming back so he can sign a new deal with a new team in free agency next spring.
But after everything that has happened, Reddick has only cost himself money in the process.
