New York Jets fans will probably squint their eyes when they see this headline, but yes, former second-round draft pick Denzel Mims is back in the NFL, according to ESPN's Todd Archer.

The Dallas Cowboys are picking up Mims following a season with the UFL's Dallas Renegades, where he caught six passes for 55 yards.

Mims last appeared in the NFL during the 2022 season with the Jets. Since then, he's bounced around from practice squad to practice squad and spent two separate stints in the UFL with both the Renegades and St. Louis Battlehawks.

The former Baylor standout is getting another chance in the NFL with the Cowboys, and it may be his last opportunity to stick around.

Mims was a member of former general manager Joe Douglas' first draft class, the 59th overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.

Mims never quite caught on in New York. Injuries, lack of scheme fit in former offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur's scheme, and even food poisoning derailed his Jets tenure.

In three years with the Jets, Mims appeared in 30 games, hauled in 42 passes for 676 yards, and never scored a touchdown.

For whatever reason, the Jets have never been able to find a solid receiver with second-round draft picks. Mims is a member of a not-so-special club with the likes of Elijah Moore, Devin Smith, and Stephen Hill as bust draft choices.

His time with the Jets came to an end in the summer of 2023 when Mims, who had requested a trade the previous year, was finally dealt to the Detroit Lions along with a conditional seventh-round 2025 draft pick in exchange for a conditional sixth-round draft selection in the same draft.

Mims never made the roster, and the conditions for the trade were not met. He then latched on with the Pittsburgh Steelers practice squad and spent the 2023 season in Pittsburgh.

The following summer, Mims was picked up by the Jacksonville Jaguars, but failed to make the final 53-man roster. The Jaguars didn't retain him on their practice squad.

Two years removed from his last stint with an NFL team, Mims now has one final opportunity to make a name for himself with Dallas.
