The New York Jets have an uncanny ability to generate headlines, even when they’re not playing football. Just when it seemed like the latest coaching purge might pass quietly, a recently fired assistant decided to make things extra Jets by publicly declaring that he “hates” the team on social media.
Yes, this kind of stuff only seems to happen with the Jets.
The Jets fired seven assistant coaches this past Friday, as head coach Aaron Glenn sought to overhaul his staff following a dismal 3-14 season. Among those fired was passing game coordinator Scott Turner, who joined the staff as Glenn's veteran offensive assistant last February.
Turner took to X (formerly Twitter) to weigh in after his firing on Sunday, and in response to a fan who said they “hate the New York Jets,” Turner simply replied, “Me too.” Very professional!

Former Jets coach Scott Turner agrees that he 'hates' the Jets
Turner was brought in to serve as offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand’s top offensive assistant. The Los Angeles native previously spent three years as the Washington Commanders’ offensive coordinator before a stint as the Las Vegas Raiders’ pass game coordinator, a role that eventually led to an interim offensive coordinator job in 2024.
It's safe to say that Turner's passing game failed to live up to expectations this season. The Jets finished with an NFL-worst 2,784 passing yards, which was the team's lowest mark since 2009 and their lowest passing yards per game since 1977.
The Jets also recorded a league-low 759 passing yards in the first halves of games, with the next closest team, the Raiders, totaling 1,230. That figure is the lowest by any NFL team over the past 20 years, trailing even the 2011 Tim Tebow–led Broncos, who finished with 820.
Still, Turner’s unprompted shot speaks volumes about the state of things in Florham Park under Glenn. After presiding over one of the most dysfunctional seasons in franchise history, Glenn quickly dismantled much of the coaching staff he had personally put together just a year earlier.
Now, he'll be responsible for rebuilding that staff after his first attempt fell apart almost immediately. Given how quickly that plan collapsed, it’s fair for Jets fans to question whether a head coach already under intense scrutiny can suddenly get it right the second time around.
Unfortunately, a recently fired assistant proudly proclaiming he "hates" the Jets probably isn't going to help assist Glenn's recruiting efforts. If anything, it only reinforces the perception of instability surrounding the organization.
