DJ Reader becomes the latest Aaron Glenn pupil to praise his coaching style

There are a lot of New York Jets fans out there who aren't incredibly optimistic about head coach Aaron Glenn's ability to turn the team around. In all fairness, it's hard to believe in a coach who went 3-14 in his first season on the job.

Heading into Year 2, the expectations are much higher for Glenn. A disastrous losing season will likely culminate in his firing, and he needs to show real improvement to keep his job. With an improved roster, anything is possible, but the player-turned-coach has believers all around the league.

New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara praised Glenn when the Jets struggled last year, and former Detroit Lions linebacker Aex Anzalone believes his old defensive coordinator has what it takes to flip the Green & White into a winning program.

DJ Reader, another former Lion and current New York Giants defensive tackle, has faith in his old coach as well. He knows from his time in Detroit that Glenn coaches the right way, and that resonates with players.

In an interview with the New York Post's Steve Serby, Reader was mostly talking about the Giants and their upcoming season, but when asked about his former defensive coordinator, he couldn't help but wax poetic.

"I loved AG, man, that’s my dawg, man. AG’s a really, really good coach, and really good person. Just the way he talks to you, the way he loves on you when you make a play, as hard as he is on you when you’re doing things wrong, he’s the first one there to pick you up when you make a play... He could have dogged you at practice, and you can still go right up to him, have a conversation after. That’s what makes coaches who are able to receive and talk to you that way and deliver that way, it makes it special."

Reader, as previously mentioned, is the latest in a long line of former players to come to the defense of Glenn. It's obvious that he makes a positive mark on the guys he coaches, and that's an incredibly important quality for any leader trying to turn his team around.

Even Jon Gruden, someone who has little to no prior connection with Glenn, believes he's building something similar to what Dan Campbell has done with the Lions.

If the Jets are following that same trajectory as Campbell's Lions, they're due for a 9-8 record in 2026 as a scrappy, fun, competitive team. There likely isn't a single Jets fan out there who wouldn't sign up for that.

They just have to place their trust in Glenn's former players, who swear by him and his coaching style.
