The New York Jets are trying to change their culture under Aaron Glenn, and they added one of his most trusted veteran leaders in Demario Davis to further that end. Davis' early assessment of Glenn is very positive, even for the Glenn haters.
Davis said that there are 90 Jets who would "run through a wall" for Glenn, which is a very strong defense for a coach who has burned much of his goodwill in New York after a slow start. Glenn being able to keep spirits high and present a plan for this team to be competitive in the 2026 season could be a sign that he was dealt a raw hand last campaign, and this year could be more representative of his acumen.
In a year where most of the fanbase started to tune Glenn out, many of the holdovers from last year seem to be all on board with what he is preaching.
Demario Davis praises Aaron Glenn's leadership despite 3-14 season
Glenn has been leaning heavily on his connections with the New Orleans Saints to build out a roster and coaching staff that can turn this team around. Not only was he able to bring Davis back, but he also linked up with a very well-regarded run defender in David Onyemata. Special teams coach Chris Banjo also crossed over with Sean Payton, one of Glenn's mentors.
No one is doubting Glenn's knowledge of defensive football, ability to command a locker room, or desire to turn around the team he starred for in his playing days. Where the doubts come in is when discussing his ability to craft an offense that threatens opposing teams, manage problems on the fly, and maximize the talent he has on the roster.
Glenn shouldn't be expected to make the playoffs in 2026, but he should need to show the Jets he can take some serious steps forward. That includes showing that he can get an NFL-level passing game installed and get some turnovers after their historic lack of takeaways last season.
While Glenn hasn't shown that he is going to be a great coach, any report of him losing the locker room would be absolutely devastating for him. Davis' quote shows that even with all of the losing that enveloped Glenn since he arrived in New York, the locker room remains ready to show the world that he can indeed be a quality mastermind in 2026.
