Davante Adams doubles down on joining Jets after demanding Raiders trade

The NY Jets have somehow managed to regress after a 7-10 season in 2023 despite getting Aaron Rodgers at quarterback, Tyron Smith at left tackle, and Davante Adams at wide receiver. The team's recent slide, in which they have lost seven of their last eight games, has cost some their jobs.

Head coach Robert Saleh was fired after five games and replaced with the utterly incompetent Jeff Ulbrich. GM Joe Douglas, who failed to build a team with a winning record in six seasons as the GM, was also fired on Tuesday. The Jets seem destined for a 14th consecutive season without a postseason appearance.

The firings of Douglas and Saleh likely mean a full reset is coming, which could spell the end for both Rodgers and Adams if the team wants to totally reboot. Despite the chaos, Adams does not regret coming to the Jets after demanding a trade from the Las Vegas Raiders.

In an appearance on Kay Adams' show, No. 17 acknowledged that he was taking a gamble, but he liked his chances better with Aaron Rodgers as his quarterback instead of a bridge veteran or uneven rookie quarterback. It remains to be seen if the future Hall of Fame receiver will stick around in 2025 and beyond.

Davante Adams does not regret being traded to NY Jets

The Jets could theoretically trade Adams to a contender with a minimal financial penalty due to the structure of his contract. While that could make sense for a rebuilding team that needs picks, there is an avenue in which keeping him could be the best long-term option.

If the Jets start over with a young quarterback, it will be hard to claim the new GM is doing a good job of surrounding him with talent by trading a player like Adams away. While he may have lost a step, Adams is still a high-end receiver capable of reeling off some gaudy statistical outputs.

Considering that the only other team who was genuinely interested in trading for him a few weeks ago was the equally (arguably more) chaotic New Orleans Saints, Adams wasn't exactly picking between a bunch of championship teams here. Reuniting with Rodgers made sense on paper, but not in practice.

If Rodgers is gone and a rebuild is happening, however, Adams may just ask out once again. Only the Jets can have Hall of Famers at the most important positions in addition to an extremely talented defense and still manage to come out worse for the wear.
