Daniel Jeremiah immediately threw Jets' selection of Cade Klubnik into question

Did the Jets make the right pick?

The New York Jets made one of the bigger surprise picks in the fourth round of the 2026 NFL Draft, selecting Clemson quarterback Cade Klubnik with the 110th overall pick.

Almost immediately, there were questions. Klubnik was not considered one of the five best quarterbacks in the class, and he just so happened to be the fifth one selected.

Even draft expert Daniel Jeremiah was wondering aloud on NFL Network's live broadcast, and was shocked that Klubnik went ahead of LSU's Garrett Nussmeier.

"I thought Nussmeier would've gone ahead of him," Jeremiah told co-hosts Rich Eisen and Charles Davis, "But again, that's the athleticism portion of it that tipped the scale."

Did Jets reach on Clemson QB Cade Klubnik?

According to most draft boards, the Jets drafted Klubnik way earlier than expected, and it gets even worse when you think about how they traded up for him.

ESPN's Rich Cimini pointed out how Klubnik was considered the 11th-best quarterback according to Scouts Inc.

"Cade Klubnik was rated the 11th-best QB in the draft, per Scouts, Inc. -- and he wound up being the 5th off the board. Not only that, but the Jets traded up to get him. Had a disappointing year for Clemson. Feels like the Jets are leaning on Frank Reich and Bill Musgrave on this QB evaluation."

Maybe there's something offensive coordinator Frank Reich and Bill Musgrave see in the Clemson QB that other teams don't, and that's why they felt the need to move up for him.

However, the fourth round is over, and not a single other quarterback has come off the board since.

It's starting to feel like the Jets may have been too aggressive when it came to landing their developmental backup quarterback.

They were probably better off waiting until the fifth or seventh (they don't hold a sixth-round pick at this point in time) to draft Klubnik. It's unlikely another team would've taken him.

Regardless, what's done is done, and Klubnik is a New York Jet. We'll see how Mougey can finish out a questionable Day 3 of the 2026 NFL Draft.
