Dan Campbell's Dolphins praise was something he never said about Aaron Glenn's Jets

The Dolphins can't be ahead of the Jets at this point, can they?

Everyone knows New York Jets head coach Aaron Glenn came from the Detroit Lions. He was their defensive coordinator from 2021 to 2024, calling plays for Dan Campbell's defense and helping lead a complete and total turnaround in Detroit.

He was hired in New York to do the same with the Jets, but unfortunately, through a year and a half on the job, he's accumulated a record of 5-20, and it feels he's closer to rejoining the Lions as their defensive coordinator in 2027 than staying on as a head coach.

Part of that may be because the Jets never really took on the identity they were hoping for when Glenn arrived on the job. The Lions are a scrappy, hard-fought team. New York, over their last 25 games, have never really emulated that kind of attitude.

You know who is a first-time head coach who has his team playing hard and manages to find ways to stay competitive despite a clear talent deficiency? Miami Dolphins head coach Jeff Hafley, who, despite being 1-6, has his team playing competent football.

Dan Campbell compares Jeff Hafley's Dolphins to Year 1 Lions... unlike Aaron Glenn's Jets

With the Lions set to face the Dolphins in Week 9, Campbell was asked about the Miami team he's about to square off against, and his praise was something Jets fans likely never heard when he was talking about Glenn's team.

“Each of these games has been one-score games; two weeks ago they beat the Jets there... Coach Hafley has done a good job in his first year. Lot of similarities to... just reminds me a little of what we were... They’re young, they’re hungry, they’re active, they run, they hit, they hustle, they finish, they try to play disciplined ball. And they’re playing that way.”

Unfortunately for the Jets, Campbell never gave that kind of praise to Glenn's team, even after he played them in Week 3. Yes, he had some kind words to say, such as "they played hard" and "they take on the identity of that head coach," but he never compared them to the Year 1 Lions.

As painful as this may be to hear for Jets fans, it seems like the Dolphins got their first-time head coach hire right, while Gang Green is going to be heading back to the drawing board this offseason, for what feels like the 20th time this century.
