Cade Klubnik is already forcing surprising behavior from Jets fans

At this point, you take what you can get.

Remarkably, New York Jets fans and media members have behaved themselves when it comes to rookie quarterback Cade Klubnik.

Seriously!

Have you noticed how few stories or radio segments there have been about wondering when Klubnik will replace Geno Smith?

Granted, Klubnik is a fourth-round pick, and he’s likely to open this season as the No. 3 quarterback behind Smith and either Brady Cook or Bailey Zappe.

Still, you take what you can get, and the lack of hot takes or uninformed guesses at times has been a welcome surprise.

Jets fans are patiently waiting on Cade Klubnik, and that’s the right move

Touted as a potential first-round prospect entering last fall, injuries and Clemson’s underwhelming season dropped Klubnik to the draft’s third and final day.

Whether or not the Jets got a steal or a player who won’t make it past his rookie contract obviously remains to be seen.

It’s nonetheless encouraging that those outside the Jets’ building aren’t putting the pressure on Aaron Glenn and the Jets to give Klubnik a chance.

Glenn had previously publicly committed to Smith as the Jets’ starter long before the draft, so that in itself isn’t surprising.

Again, though, where are the blog posts or podcast clips debating if Klubnik should be a realistic starting option come November?

For once, people appear open to letting the Jets work at their own pace with a rookie quarterback.

Such an idea might sound obvious, but these are the Jets we’re talking about — and that’s not intended to be an insult.

Jets fans have been desperately seeking stability at franchise quarterback for years, arguably as far back as 2012, when the Mark Sanchez era officially concluded.

And, again, none of this is to say that Klubnik will emerge as the answer if or when his time comes.

Barring injury, at least four of the Jets’ first draft picks — edge rusher David Bailey, tight end Kenyon Sadiq, receiver Omar Cooper Jr., and cornerback D’Angelo Ponds — are expected to contribute from Day 1.

We’ll just need to see how long before the calls questioning when Klubnik will join them.
