New York Jets fans held their collective breath Monday morning when it was revealed that Breece Hall was hurt at practice. The New York Post's Brian Costello shared that the newly extended running back caught a swing pass, then pulled up and fell.
The early expectation was a groin injury from the reporters on the scene, and head coach Aaron Glenn confirmed as much when he met with the media shortly after practice ended.
"Breece strained his groin. I don't think it was a big deal, but I wanna make sure I get the evaluation on that. The one good thing about our players: man, they are honest with their injuries... but we're trying to be precautionary with a lot of those."
Hall will have imaging done to see the severity of the injury, and that will help determine how much time the star running back will miss. Hopefully, he'll be back on the field in time for Week 1 against the Tennessee Titans.
New York Jets RB Breece Hall goes down with groin injury at practice
While we don't know anything for sure right now, it's unlikely we'll see Hall in the foreseeable future. The Jets will want him to rest up and get healthy for the start of the regular season, and they'll certainly need him to.
Hall, fresh after signing his new three-year, $43.5 million extension this past May, is expected to be the leading piece of the Jets' backfield. Thanks to his dual-threat ability, Frank Reich hopes to get something out of the five-year veteran that none of his previous offensive coordinators have been able to.
He can only do that once he's 100% healthy, though, and the early returns on the imaging will obviously be a strong indicator of how much time he'll truly miss.
Expect the Jets to make an addition at running back in the coming days, considering the injuries they're currently dealing with at the position. Third-string running back Isaiah Davis is set to miss the remainder of training and preseason as he deals with a knee injury.
Braelon Allen will take over as the lead back with the first team, while Kene Nwangwu and undrafted free agents Chip Trayanum and Sam Scott serve as depth.
Hopefully, we get more news on Hall sooner rather than later, and his injury isn't as serious as it was initially feared to be at 1 Jets Drive.
