The future of Aaron Rodgers remains uncertain as the NY Jets enter a pivotal offseason that promises to bring about widespread change throughout the organization.

Everyone seems to have an opinion on what direction the team should take with Rodgers this offseason, but one individual who seemed to make his thoughts abundantly clear on Sunday night was Jets running back Breece Hall.

Jets legend Joe Namath took to social media after Sunday's Week 18 win over the Dolphins to share his thoughts on the Rodgers situation. If it were up to the best QB in franchise history, he'd bring Rodgers back for another year.

"After watching Aaron Rodgers play today, there’s no doubt he’s got at least another year in him. So if he wants to, I’d love to see him stay with the Jets. He could definitely help the new GM and coach, as well as play ball. He’s still throwing with accuracy and authority."

Namath insisted there was "no doubt" Rodgers still had at least another year in him, standing firm in his belief that the four-time MVP should be the Jets' quarterback in 2025 if he wants to be. As for Hall, he reposted Namath's message on X (formerly Twitter) shortly following the game.

Breece Hall wants Aaron Rodgers to be the NY Jets' quarterback in 2025

It shouldn't come as much of a surprise that Hall is in favor of Rodgers returning in 2025. Despite the Jets' miserable 2024 season, Rodgers actually put together an impressive campaign.

The future Hall of Famer finished the 2024 season with 28 touchdowns and 11 interceptions, throwing for nearly 3,900 yards while completing 63 percent of his passes. That's unironically one of the best seasons by a quarterback in Jets history.

Rodgers is also genuinely respected and beloved by many of his teammates in the Jets' locker room. Rumors that he's worn out his welcome relate more to his relationship with owner Woody Johnson — his teammates still love him.

Unfortunately, the Rodgers conversation involves more than just his play on the field. The finances aren't pretty if the Jets bring Rodgers back for another season.

Rodgers has a $35 million option bonus in his contract that automatically triggers if he's on the Jets' roster in Week 1 of 2025. The team would be forced to eat $63 million in dead cap once his contract expires after 2025 due to the structure of his deal (void years).

That dead cap charge would likely be spread across 2026 and 2027, putting significant strain on the team's finances for the next few years. It's difficult to envision the next Jets regime willingly putting themselves in such a position.

The alternative would be to cut ties with Rodgers this offseason and take a $49 million dead cap hit up front. That's a large sum of money to eat in one year, but it would allow the next regime financial flexibility beyond 2025. This seems to be the most likely route the Jets take.

Hall and many of his teammates might want to run it back with Rodgers in 2025, but despite his pleas, that reality remains unlikely. Rodgers has likely played his final game with the Jets.
